Many might see Roderick as a villain, but he is just a man of faith, blindly defending what he believes in, so that his heart can be at peace after the death of his wife. If his belief is shattered, then so will his heart, for all that makes him wake up in the morning is the thought that his wife is waiting for him in god’s house after he dies. But what if what Victor is doing is valid? Then how would he meet her again? Victor must be stopped.

Be careful Mr. Frankenstein, you toy with wrathful forces. And there's no mercy in nature.
This film presents a very fresh and different take on a story that has been shot so many times. It focuses more on grief, when all other films seem to focus more on Frankenstein playing God and the suffering creature. Here the creature is deprived of soul, thoughts or feelings.
All characters have a lot of depth and deal with their own amount of pain. I just really wish they had shown a bit more of Turpin’s backstory because it seems to be quite interesting. I don’t see him just as a police detective, I think he embodies everything Victor goes against and tries to prove wrong: a man of faith.
Both men suffer from intense grief and both stand on the opposite sides on how to deal with this pain. Victor mourns the death of his brother by trying to create new life as a way to restore the one that was lost. Whereas Roderick deals with his by believing that when you die, you meet God and wait for your loved ones to fall into the abyss of death to meet you there. So his wife is waiting for him by God’s side. And that is what keeps him functioning. We don’t know how long ago that was, or how she died. All we know is that it is something very present in his life, for the way he looks at her picture all the time at work.
There is no way to prove who is right, because in the end both theories have valid points. We are chemical reactions powered by electrical impulses, but Victor saw with his own eyes that is not only these that makes us live, for what he brought to “life” was an empty vessel, and not a real person, as he thought he would. So, what makes us what we are? Is it really God? Who knows… And I believe that this is the first time I see a creature that is really just a creature, nothing else. It doesn’t suffer, it is just a chemical reaction and electrical impulses, which I thought was pretty cool.
To me, Igor is the main character of the story, for he sees both sides, the science and the faith. He understands that we are chemical reactions and electrical impulses, but that there is something more than just that, something Victor seems to be oblivious to. He was just so abused in his entire life that he doesn’t seem to mind how abusive Victor is towards him, he has seen so much worse, and he can even consider Victor a friend.
Victor has suffered so much by the death of his brother that turned him into a madman on a quest to reverse death. He is so obsessed with the thought of reversing death that he completely disregards life. Most people have little importance to him and even though he gave Igor a new life, he seems to see him more as a tool to bring his plan to life.
The only thing that bothered me a bit is the fact that since the first scene, Turpin is depicted as a very intelligent and observant detective. No detail goes unnoticed and he seems to see far ahead. So, would someone like this fall for the old trick of looking to the side when you are pointing a gun at someone who would have absolutely no problem in hurting you or gouging your eyes out of your face??? I don’t think so… And he got suspended for not having a warrant, but there are no charges against Victor for assaulting a police officer and getting all his fingers cut off??? That sounds odd to me.
And one bit at the end got me puzzled: has Roderick saved Victor’s life in the end? Cause maybe the creature would have attacked Victor anyway and would have killed him, if Roderick hadn’t been there… But maybe the creature just attacked because Roderick shot him first… that got me wondering…
